How do I Unplug?

How do you know when it’s time to unplug? What do you do to make it happen?

We all need to unplug sometimes. For me it’s when I start to get overwhelmed by life’s stressors.

To alleviate this I quite simply, turn off all technology, disconnect from all social media, and go to nature.

Go for a walk, a hike, an adventure.

A beach, the mountains, a park, something outside and not requiring a phone, computer, or TV.

Or I turn on the music and get lost in the melodies and the vivid imagery they bring about.

I call the above activities, “Recharging my batteries”…

Thank you for reading.

Shangri -La

Embrace that silence.
Let the calm wash over you.
Feel at ease with grace.
Empty all thoughts from your mind.
Let peace completely fill you.
Softly sit in place.
Don’t say a word just listen.
Focus on nothing.
Let all of your burdens go.
Relaxation with purpose…

Alone Again?

It’s the end if the world and you know it

It ain’t over till it’s over

Over my head

Over and out

Out of touch

Out of time

Time and tide

Time of the season

Season cycle

Season of the witch

Witchy ways

Witchy woman

Woman at the well

Woman in love

Love is a battlefield

Lover fool

Fools rush in

Fool (if you think it’s over)

Overjoyed

Over You

You are the sunshine of my life

You belong to me

Me and my arrow

Me, myself, and I

I don’t want to spoil the party

I alone

Alone again or

Alone again, naturally

Natural woman

Natural one

One (is the loneliest number)

One step closer

Closer to edge

Closer to the heart

Heart of the sunrise

Heart of glass

Glass onion

Glass houses

Houses of the Holy

House of the rising sun

Sun is shining

Sun king

King of pain

King for a day

Day in, day out

Day drinking

Drinking again

Drinking alone

Alone…

Again…

High Stars

Take on Me

Take my down to the Paradise City

Cities in dust

City of Gold

Golden years

Gold dust woman

Woman like me

Woman in chains.

Chains of love

Chain of fools

Fool on the hill

Fool in the rain

Rainbow connection

Rain drops keep falling on my head

Head like a hole

Head down

Down in a hole

Down under

Under the boardwalk

Under the cherry moon

Moonlight drive

Moon dance

Dance dance dance

Dance in my blood

Blood sweat and tears

Bloody well right

Right down the line

Right of way

Way to San Jose

Way you are

Are you gonna go my way

Are you gonna be my girl

Girl afraid

Girls just want to have fun

Fun fun fun

Fun to be had

Had to fall in love

Had to cry today

Today is greatest day I’ve ever known

Today’s gonna be a good day

Daydream in blue

Day light

Lights go down

Light my fire

Fire and Rain

Fire in the Sky

Sky full of stars

Sky high

High…

Stars…

How Many Jobs Have I Had?

What jobs have you had?

Jack of All Trades
by joel greatbatch, posted in cowboy contemplationsliving in austinnew zealand

Well, I’m sort of been a jack of all trades master of none in my careers.

I’ve worked in technology, customer service, and utility sectors.

But here are the jobs I have done or am working on currently:

Courtesy clerk (box boy)

Project manager

Customer service representative

Technical support engineer

Tech-support level two

Tech-support engineer level three

Helpdesk

Systems analyst

Business analyst

Trainer

Data conversion specialist

Senior technology specialist

Information technology risk assessor

Information technology budget manager

Network administrator

Technical writer

Poet

Biographer

Ghost writer

Percussionist

Writer

I guess that’s enough. And one level or another, though I perform those tasks above some at the same time, others by themselves.

As always, thank you for reading. 😀

Three Things Challenge M708

Your three words today are:

COVER

PROTECT

SHELTER

Moore, OK Tornado Stock News Footage 05/03/1999
Moore, OK Tornado Stock News Footage 05/03/1999

Hold On!!!

Duck and cover

Head for shelter

Protect, not hover

In the pending helter skelter.

Find a safe place

And hunker down

The storm is coming

Round and round.

The sirens are going

The time is near

The winds are really blowing

And the green sky is not clear.

A sound at first, distant

Starts to grow

Initially, a soft hiss

Then it starts to throw.

In between blasts of hail and rain

There was as a different sound

It’s something like a freight train

With everything twirling around.

Deep inside my hiding place

I hear objects hit the house

As the winds pick up there pace

I huddle quiet as a mouse.

Big things small things

Missles of all sizes

Crash through with a sting

Destroying all our prizes

I hold on tight

The worst is here

It won’t take me this night

Though that I fear.

I close my eyes

With fast beating heart

With tears and sighs

As my house is torn apart.

My ears pop

From the pressure of the wind

I pray for it to stop

And the tornado finally ascends…

Do You Practice Religion

Do you practice religion?

This is a very difficult question for me. Yes I am religious, but in the name of of religion, members of my own family were murdered.

I am a quarter Armenian and my great grandparents both perished in the Armenian Genocide of 1917, as did 1.5 million other Armenian citizens, many of which were women and children.

I hold no anger or resentment or desire for revenge for what has happened. I have learned to love and respect EVERYONE! No matter what you believe in, no matter the color of your skin, no matter who you love, I love you all.

We should all be the same way who are we to judge anybody based on religion or anything else? We’re not we’re human. we are gods we can’t cast judgment on another people. It’s not our job. Yet so many do specially in these last several years.

I keep scratching my head to this day…

Internet Before and After

Do you remember life before the internet?

I have to say I’m real lucky. I was born into low technology, far before the Internet became what we know it today to be. I think back then it was still an idea to keep network connectivity in the event of a nuclear holocaust. Definitely a different application than what is used today.

I mean right now as I’m typing this on my smart phone, utilizing the information super high and a fiber optic connection as my personal broadband.

We had to use a lot more creativity, imagination to get what we needed out of the available technologies of the time. I was born in 1972 so I’m definitely a Generation X.

I also have a unique perspective as in college. I was there before, and after the advert of the Internet. I remember spending seven hours in the library reviewing and printing microfiche a various periodicals. I didn’t mind that didn’t mind the Dewey Decimal System.

Then along comes the Internet, information far too easy to grab, we become so lazy as a society. Everything handed to us. I believe the more recent generations have no patience because they are used to instant gratification. Fast results fast information.

I think the older generations had to use a lot of creativity because we didn’t have everything handed out to us or arms length if you had a tablet or phone or computer at your disposal, which almost almost everybody does this day and age.

That’s my humble opinion I’m not saying it’s and I’m not putting anybody down, but I’m saying the fact that I’ve got to live with and without technology I feel like I use it more responsibly.

Just my five cents thanks for reading…

Could you ask for more?

Now just pass the test.

Books, sonnets, and the rest.

Then you’ll be the best.

With limericks and rhyme.

My pentameters are fine.

Lyrics are sweet wine.

My words really flow.

The very best friends I know.

I just need control.

Haikus and Raikus.

With syllables that I choose.

Sharing all my views.

Some stanzas align.

In simple or crazy time.

Free verse is a crime.

Ideas a flood.

These renderings my life’s blood.

None of them a dud.

My words with feeling.

Make poems more appealing.

My mind, free-wheeling.

Don’t know where each goes.

I the author barely knows.

In creative throws.

This writing must end.

Freeing us both my friend.

For our lives to tend.

Hater Comments Designed to Maim

Haters will hate

So the adage says

The ill will they propagate

Can last for days.

Using inflammatory words

They viciously strike you

Though their reasoning is absurd

They have nothing better to do.

We all work hard as we write

Our efforts on virtual parchment, blood

Another such soul struck tonight

And I felt the anger and hurt, flood.

I really need a thicker skin

I shouldn’t even care

After reading what was said within

I had no smile to bear.

Some folks oughta get a life

Rather than writing words unclean

Not since my ex-wife

Have I read such text, so mean.

We’re all authors, trying to succeed

Not hurt each other for sport

Encouragement is my true creed

Not succumbing to petty resorts.

Maybe it’s bitter envy I don’t know

What motivates one to hurt another

Maybe someone loses control

And just chooses to choke and smother.

I guess I just don’t know anymore

Why people would rather be dogging

Instead of setting out, resentful what more

Maybe just concentrate on blogging?

Daily prompt I can’t remember what number 🤣🤣

What are you good at?

Jack of All Trades, Master of None: Why Every New Skill Doubles Your Chance of Success

This is a great question and it’s difficult because I’m modest, but I’m gonna go ahead and run with this one.

Things that I’m good at:

Writing poetry and short stories and articles.

Technical writing and technology and computers and helping people with those.

Percussion and drums since I was eight.

Singing since I was five.

I’m also a very empathetic human being and a healer, I help people find the answers and the questions.

I was a strong site reader also as a musician.

I play piano by ear self taught.

And have borderline perfect pitch.

Feels weird answering these as I feel like I’m acting like an egotist and I’m not. But there are great many things. I’m pretty good at Jack of all trades master of none maybe.

thanks for reading. I know haven’t done one of these in a while.

Three Things Challenge M705

Your three words today are:
INITIAL
INDICATE
INSTRUCT

Thank you as always, Pensivity101 I love these challenges.

Intuition Heartbreak

Your initial instructions led to my deductions

I wish there were more to say

Think to myself, and utilized the impressions

That you were throwing me away.

Intuition indicates your feelings for me weren’t true

And I myself feel a fool for loving you…

Playing With 🔥⛽️💥

Playing with fire with gas on your hands.

Think hard before making those ‘other’ plans.

Use common sense at the end of the day.

Or else you’ll get burned and you’ll pay.

Make better choices to live your best life.

Lest you end up with a gaslighting wife.

Follow your heart but augment with your head.

Remember everything that’s been shown and said.

No one opposes you but yourself.

So leave the negativity away on a shelf.

Take chances and change and grow.

For someday you will love them so.

Be kind to you, be your best friend.

Because you’re only yourself to the end.

Now we’ve come to the end of this rhyme.

Take your lessons to heart and have a good time…

The Pressures of the Writer

If My works, do not emote emotion in detail

Then I consider each an epic fail.

If readers don’t think when they read my words

Then they’re all just: gibberish, trite, obtuse absurd.

If what I write all sounds the same

Then it’s solely the author to blame.

So as I write my newest work

I feel my creativity tense, and jerk.

Because I do not want to come across a phony

Or just another one trick pony.

I try new styles, tempos, and beats

Iambic pentameters and challenging feats.

To wow the readers as I heal

Sharing the words that make them feel.

That is why I write, my friend

Alas, this poem is at an end…

Can I Write an A-to-Z Poem?

A challenging task is at hand.

Being that I’m writing an A-to-Z Poem.

Clearly this will be no small task.

Definitely a new poetic form I’m trying out.

Elaborate writing will be my only defense.

For this is no ordinary poetic type.

Gee, I’m off to a good start so far.

How can I give up the quest now?

I simply must continue working at it.

Jumping at the chance, I use my creativity.

Killing the time with my ramblings, a I go.

Looking to find something unique to say.

Milling about on my phone, aimlessly.

Now is the time to put forth my best effort.

Onward and upward as the cliche dictates.

Placement and pace are critical to this art.

Quietly and thoughtfully, I compose.

Rolling my fat digits on my phone.

Skillfully trying to make this work, amusing.

To get this close to the final letters is great.

Until I get the final letter will never be done.

Very carefully, I craft the final four lines.

With great precision and care.

Xanax will not be needed at this point.

Yet I feel urgency to get to the final letter.

Zen, is what completing an A-Z poem is…

Not so Fond Farewell

Now I’m here

You go away

Save cruelty

For another day.

Badness gone

Far away

Save it for

Another stay.

Leave this place

Move along

Singing a

Different song.

There’s no need

To explain

As your words

Cause me pain.

Bid adieu

Say goodbye

Pack your bags

I won’t cry.

For, my truth

Is at hand

You’re in a

Distant land.

Now I’m free

From your hate

Peace without

A debate…

Entropy Works

Through chaos comes organization.

Everything settles back down to normal.

Sit still, quietly for a moment, you’ll see it.

Everything happens for a reason, you just need to be far away enough to see it.

Don’t worry if you can’t see the road ahead it goes in the right direction.

Be the change, light the way for everyone in the future.

Be the spark that ignites them all, aflame.

Show everyone that change is the key to everything and staying stagnant is death.

As you grow, your world will grow, and your life will grow.

Be, that, change…

Writing Life

Writing poetry isn’t very easy

As inspiration strikes we’re busy.

🤪

Placing words together that rhyme

Like “time”, “slime”, and “mime”

🤪

To compose a limerick that’s not cheesy.
