Patience, a Virtue

Patience, a virtue at fifty-two

In all creative ventures we try

Trying hard in all we say and do

Requiring obstinance be applied.

Learning new things isn’t as easy

A lot of focus, often needed

Far from our youth this isn’t breezy

As many of our minds, are ceded.

Moving forward, we must try our best

Steeper the hills of journeys to go

All, have to pass that arduous test

Even now, we continue to grow…

Despair, The Devil’s Food

Despair is the devil’s food

And he eats it all the time

The further down we all fall

The far stronger he gets.

Eternal damnation isn’t in hell

It lives in our past as it darkens our mood

Bringing our happiness to sadness

As we face our deepest regrets.

So, when we ponder and want to have it all

Take a few steps back, pause, and think

Emphasizing all that we’ve accomplished

And cleaning up our own mess.

Forged in fire, tempered steel, is our brood

Ever climbing, reach the mountain’s crest.

Too Much

In his thirst for knowledge

He bit of more than he could chew

Now drowning in his porridge

Life passing before him

And everything he knew

Now grasping, struggling, for a point of view…

Neglected in Love

Chew me up and spit me out

Drop me like an afterthought

This is what your love is all about

Leaving someone to fester and rot.

Take and take and never give

Selfishness your middle name

Not a happy life to live

When the relationship is like a game.

Lure me back when I fade away

Making me thing you just might care

Manipulations led us astray

When you’re caught all unaware.

No amount of love given

Will alter this torturous course

A life of misery is what you are living

Wondering if it can ever get worse.

The only thing to do

Is bring this all to a final end

Loving yourself through and through

Will assure this never happens again…

To Write or Not to Write

To write or not to write

Surely a dilemma day or night.

To rhyme, in free verse of haiku

Just not sure what to do.

Finding the words that fit the best

Always puts us to the test.

Just like braving a wild river in a raft

With little else to fall on but our craft.

Syllables, rhymes, beats in mind

Putting them together can be a bind,

Shear determination is the rock

In the battle of writer’s block.

Just keep going, working hard

Hoping it’s met with high regard.

Ending lines, make them clean

Or else your poem will never be seen…

Nana Mia I Miss You

Nana, where have you gone, why did you have to leave?

You were a huge part of my life since I began to breathe.

You left 8 years before your life ended, as the Alzheimer’s and dementia took your beautiful mind/personality/memory and obliterated it all.

You read all of my poetry and writings when I was a child and then as a young adult and you always encouraged me to keep at it. My first fan ❤️😊

Watching you rapidly disappear from yourself was beyond painful. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

I know if you had a choice you’d remain forever and I wish you could.

A hideous disease took away your memory of me well before that.

I miss your love and guidance.

I miss your laugh, if I try hard I can still hear it echoing in my mind.

I miss your cooking and ever so slightly broken- English.

I miss your stories of the old country.

I miss your calming energy presence in my life as these past 20 years have been challenging.

I am thankful for all you shared and showed and the mere echo of all of this is nice but nothing compared to your being here.

Thank you for building me up through those awkward horrible teenage years. It took a long time for women to get and frankly most still don’t, but I can hear you still sharply objecting to my self criticism and saying how handsome I was. Thank you for that I always felt like the greatest version of myself when I was around you.

Each time I see someone blog about their grandmother your loss hits me hard again.

So I say to everyone, love the important people in your life because they will not be a part of (in person) forever.

I wish I could hug you one more time and receive what we use to call a “nana kiss” which would leave dents on the jawbone from the shear force. 😂

I never could say goodbye and I never will.

Your love and touches on my life have made the man I am today.

So I thank you and hug you from afar but I cannot lie, it’s nothing compared to hugging you in person.

So “Rosarita Pizza Face” (family nickname) enjoy your eternity (you’ve earned it through love and sacrifice) and your rewards ❤️❤️

Overnight Elations

Sighs and snores as we both rest

Suddenly, warm hands touch my chest.

Reaching out softly in the dark

Creating an ignition, a spark.

Wager lips will find their mark

Upon a body, they will park.

Mutual kisses all around

Matching energies can be found.

Bodies close and breathing fast

Hoping forever this will last.

Synergy and sharing we will earn

As our fires of passion burn.

Goosebumps everywhere there’s touch

Add to the building moments, much.

The hands on the clock travel fast

All too soon our moments passed.

Exhaustion, we’ve succumbed to one another’s charms

Falling fast, back, asleep in each other’s arms.

Vinny was the sort of vulture

Who is well-versed in culture.

He reads books quite fast

On societies, long passed.

QOTD: # 107 Romance in the Air

What’s your definition of romantic?

What do I think romantic is? This is not a simple question. It’s not a straightforward answer either.

I’m gonna digress like everybody else and it say that it’s not all about candlelight dinners and walks on the beach though those can be part of it, romance is a whole lot more.

Spontaneity

Unexpected surprises and fun events that take place during time out as a big part of romantic.

An unexpected storm something goes wrong with the meal. That’s not our fault. Something crazy happens in the restaurant. A full moon a meteor shower. Any unexpected surprises will add to romance.

Surprising somebody with a last-minute getaway and taking them and having everything all planned out and laid out ahead of time is always a good idea. Especially if it’s a getaway.

Its the Small Things That Count

Little things make a huge difference. If it’s just a little chivalry by standing on a slide of traffic while you hold their hand. Ordering the meal, after finding out what your date likes.

Flowers are nice, but they’re very unoriginal in this day and age. I find writing a poem or sharing that just before we leave is interesting and different. I am a writer so I guess that kind of helps.

Getting the doors, pulling out the chair and pushing it in, these finer points are important and that you care and that you want your date to feel special.

Lots of surprises anything you can do to surprise your date is a great idea and I think very romantic.

Location Location Location

Places of natural beauty. Lovely, quiet sidewalk cafés with sweeping people watching views. Dark candle-lit restaurants. These are the ocean sunsets sun on the sea are all nice and add to the ambience.

Pay Attention (read that again!!)

Most important, pay attention, take someone to their favorite restaurant, for their favorite dessert, their favorite place to go and visit, or their favorite destination.

People want to know that you’re paying attention to them, but you know what they like that you listen to what they say demonstrating that on a date you plan out to me is very romantic.

Everything will work out for the best just take it one step at a time and be present the entire time and romance will flood through.

As always, thank you for reading.

Distant Star (So Far Away)

Star so far away it is blind

More than us, it left behind.

Hanging in a lonely night

If only it could shine more bright.

And not be so very far

From everything, and who we are.

So distant we can’t detect its heat

Though it would make us more complete.

If only it could know our plight

And reassure us every night.

Star, as light years away as can be

But if we use a telescope, we can see.

It isn’t as unreachable as it seems

Just like all our heartfelt dreams.

Close your eyes, relax your stare

There it is, just shining there.

So if others don’t give love, or care

Remember like that star, it’s still out there…

We Feel Therefore We Exist

We do exist, we’re all standing right here, right now.

Feeling like we’re invisible or out of view in plain sight.

The nonconformists, the unique, the different, the creative.

We don’t quite fit into any mold yet here we are.

This is my tribe my clan these are my people.

Many artists, musicians, writers, highly creative people.

We feel more than most, and we have to live with it.

It’s difficult to articulate how it feels to be different because we all want to belong.

But, we do belong to our own weird oddly dysfunctional group.

We make the stars burn a little brighter.

The flora and fauna a little prettier.

And the universe more filled with wonderment.

We feel therefore we all exist…

QOTD: # 106

How do you express your gratitude?

I do so by being thankful of everything I receive and get in life. So many have done nice things for me and I always try to share my gratitude with them each.

Either if it comes to me randomly or from a friend or from a family member or a lover, I always appreciate it.

I’m working on being more being grateful, it’s tough sometimes. Writing on this blog here I have to work on my gratitude. I’ll take lack of response for one thing I write more seriously than the great response I get for almost everything else. I write and I need to stop doing that.

But I continue to try and improve on this and be happier in and of myself. always start up my day simply by being grateful for being alive and waking up and for having all that I have in my life right now and all that I’ve earned in my life right now.

As always, thank you for reading. 😊
