Lands of Death

The moon is out the stars on high

Pillars of stone reach towards the sky.

Listening softly you hear your breath

In this land of such loss and death.

In the coolness of dusk your breath is steam

Soft puffs reflecting the twilight gleam.

Thinking the lives below so long gone

Sadness so great, you barely carry on.

You say some prayers, think good thoughts

For great winners here and the have-nots.

Walking silently, by the chiseled grey stones

Contemplating, most inhabitants here, are merely bones.

Talking in your mind, no words out loud said

Reverent silence, in respect for the dead.

You should be leaving soon you know

Impending darkness, stars are beginning to show.

You say your goodbyes to loved ones at rest

You miss them dearly, they’ve finished life’s tests.

Prayers complete, you leave briskly with intention

As these places at night, bear creepy mention…

Getting Through Thursday

Can’t keep my eyes open

I’m in dire need of a nap

Up early, and I’m still coping.

I feel slow and thick like tree’s sap

Only caffeine can get me through

Feeling dried out like a pen without cap.

A latte or Monster Energy will do

Wake up juice is needed now

After consuming this magic brew.

I feel light and airy in my brow

Really getting my second wind

Moving with determination and how

My tiredness earlier doth rescind

Meetings and projects, so much to get done

As I finished them all, I happily grinned.

Knocking out task lists is always fun

Satisfaction, at the end of my day

Now once and for all, my work is done

I’m not a Jack, dull, boy, it’s time for play…

Seasons Unique

Springtime everything’s alive

Green teaming with such life

Longer days promised.

Summer’s endless adventures

Vacations reunions cruises, time off

Beaches deserts mountains.

Falls cooling breezes

Promises of winter goodbye heat

Hello pumpkin spice.

Winter had arrived

Rainer cooler days, longer nights

Holidays and birthdays.

Four seasons yearly

Each with its own personality

And quite unique…

1/0 = ?

How long is infinity?

Can we drive there?

The existentialist affinity

With nothing to share.

Is infinitesimal far?

I can’t count the miles

Surely, you can’t use your car

Journeying all the while.

Can ginormous be calculated?

My computer can’t compute

Its circuits get exasperated

As the endless is a brute.

Try as you may to divide by zero

You’ll never get the answer

If you could you’d be such a hero

But the larger numbers, hamper.

When will the end be reached?

I doubt we will ever know

With the sands of time besieged

Ebbing endlessly, to and fro…

Marianne Martian and The Space Cadets

When my sister was eight

She’d earned a new nickname

Marianne Martin, which was great

With each song, she’d play a game.

Many singers long ago

Really slurred their words

Minus the lyrics, no one would know

And the songs would sound absurd.

My sister sang what she thought she heard

My aunt and I would laugh and listen

As she made up nonsensical words

And Martian and the Space Cadets were christened.

My aunt and I were the loyal space cadets

Our number was only two

We made a trio instead of quartette

But that’s what we had to do.

When Marianne martian sang a song

We’d do our best to accompany her

Even if the words are lyrics were wrong

We’d sing them all wrong for sure.

So if you ever passed a brown mustang

In the late nineteen seventies for sure

No, you you were not going insane

We were just starting our world tour…

Bravery on the Campus

He went out on a limb and expressed interest in her.

It’d been a long time since he’d connected with anyone.

The fears of rejection were always present but he was brave and moved forward.

She was very much out of this league but her pursued her anyway.

Quietly but surely, walking up to her with a single long stemmed red rose.

Presenting it to her as a gift, he asked her to join him for soda pop later that afternoon at the student union…

9/11 💔

I don’t want to remember

All the deaths that they suffered

It was one bright September

Tragedy was not buffered.

I’ve done all my figuring

After many years later

No magic conjuring

Will ever make it waver

A love that Almost Was…

Fire was in your eyes.

Embers spreading from your soul.

Fire’s out of control.

Love was in your heart.

Sweetest dreams were in your mind.

The passionate kind.

Gentle was your touch.

Your soft hands are everywhere.

Touched my face and hair.

Quite warm was your smile.

It would stop and melt my heart.

Adored from the start.

Velvet was your skin.

Silky-soft freckled and tan.

I once as your man.

So girly your laugh.

Higher pitched and very sweet.

Your humor a treat.

I’m so glad we met.

Those times I’ll never forget.

I have no regrets…

MADE OF LOVE

She glows like glycerine sunshine.

Lighting up any room as she enters.

The radiance is almost blinding.

So much beauty one can barely stand it.

An angel among us mortals.

Fortunately she doesn’t know this.

And her modesty a refreshing taste of sunshine.

Warmth from her smile could thaw the Arctic.

My words do not do her any justice…

Your Prompt for the week

  • Out of the blue

OUT OF THE BLUE

Out of the blue

I did find you.

Didn’t look hard

In that regard.

And they you were

And now I’m sure.

That I am blessed

And less depressed.

So I contend

You’re a great friend.

Very aware

Full of such care.

Creative too

In all you do.

Syllable lines

Just might confine.

Challenge is more

Limiting four.

But I just might

Finish tonight.

Feeling so bright

These words, are right.

To my delight,

Adieu, Goodnight…

The Lizardinator

Baby alligators big or small

With a tail or none at all.

I can catch them as they crawl

On the ground or near a wall.

If they’re close or rather far

She’ll capture and place them in a jar.

You needn’t be vexed

About what happens next.

You’ll place a retraction

On your knee-jerk reaction.

For you will see

She sets them free.

Her intentions are always mild

Releasing them back to the wild

So if lizards catch you unawares

Use the lizardinator who truly cares…

Softly, She Went Away

Nothing I can do or say

Wink if an eye, you’re far away

I’ll never forget that day

The way you held me at bay

A very dark day that May

After promises you wouldn’t stray

So sad the games you played

You were so afraid

So your decision was made

You couldn’t of stayed

Your self interest cut like a blade

A great thing was completely unmade

I gave up trying to persuade

A love that you forbade…
