What alternative career paths have you considered or are interested in?
I feel this question is redundant as it has been asked in many other forms and most of my readers know I’d be a writer/musician, which to a degree I already am.
Hopefully we’ll have a better Daily Question, tomorrow.
As always thank you for reading… 😊

What food would you say is your specialty?

I have a few cooking specialties, I think. I am half Italian and remember a lot of my Nana’s recipes from watching her cook so I make a lot of different pasta sauces from scratch.
I’m also pretty adept at making marinades and grilling meats on the barbecue.
I’m also not too shabby at making quesadillas, especially when I have a quesadilla maker to cook them on.

What major historical events do you remember?
There’s so many, and they really are not good, unfortunately.
As far as health or terrorist related disasters:
Persian Gulf War 1991
Persian Gulf War 2001
The COVID 19 Pandemic.
The January 6th, 2021 Attacks on the US Capital.
The September 11th Terrorist Attacks.
Also living in Southern California, I’ve been through several significant earthquakes:
1987 Whittier Earthquake (5.9)
1992 Landers Earthquake (7.3)
1992 Big Bear Earthquake (same day) (6.5)
1994 Northridge Earthquake (6.7)
1999 Hector Mine Earthquake (7.1).
We also had some very significant flooding and very heavy rains and other inclement weather during significant El Niños that I also experienced here in Southern California, California.
1982 El Niño event (previous all-time record for most rain in and southern and northern California going as far back as were kept.)
1993 El Niño event
1997 El Niño event (all-time most rain in most of California going as far back as records were kept).
I also happen to be living in Texas (Irving) in 2015 for what was at the time, the wettest rain season in the history of the state. I recall getting flash flood warnings on my phone for six months straight because the Trinity River was way over its banks.

I have come to appreciate many forms and off-shoots of Punk Rock. Protopunk, bands like the Flaming Groovies, Television, The Who, and Velvet Underground. Pioneer Punk bands like: The New York Dolls, The Stooges, The Ramones, and many others. These led to a movement in the late 1970s in England to bands like the Sex Pistols, The Damned, and The Clash. Will save hard-core punk bands from the early 80s for another discussion, but I love them too, as well as the modern Punk Rock bands of the 90s and beyond.
A truly remarkable cover of the Junior Murvin reggae classic. This is my favorite song by The Clash and it’s off of their self titled debut album.
Released in 1977, I love how this song starts, I love the beat, and I love the bass line on the bottom. The guitar riffs on 2s and 4s with syncopated drums. Something very different and interesting. Joe Strummer with his cool vocals that would become the standard for many of their albums to come.
Great political lyrics just like many clash songs have.
Very unique and different and I think you’ll get a kick out of this cover like I do. Be sure to play it loud and put on some headphones for this bad boy!!
And as always, thank you for reading and listening…

What’s the biggest risk you’d like to take — but haven’t been able to?
This is a great question today, my hats off to you. 😊
The biggest risks id like to take relate to my creativity. I’d like to publish many books. I’d like to publish anthologies of my best poetry, children’s books, a book of short stories and essays, and maybe a self help book on the exodus from narcissist relationships as I have considerable field experience in that area.
Also I’d love to be in a band (jazz combo or rock cover).

What are you most proud of in your life?
I’m proud that I’m here talking to you right now. I’m proud that I made it further than a lot of people would’ve gotten living my circumstances. I’m proud that I’m me and that I don’t worry anymore about what other people think.
I’m proud that despite a gazillion bad choices I made in my life. I can make good ones now and appreciate the wisdom I learned from my bad decisions in the past.
I’m proud that I’m able to stand on my own, not relying on anybody but me for eating and for cooking, and for money, and for meals, and for love, and for everything. It’s taken a long time to get here. It’s not that I don’t want love from others and I don’t receive it. I do but I’m just saying I also love myself.
I’m proud that I’m doing what I love to do for a living and for fun here in my blog. I’m proud that I’m not sorry for being eccentric weird oddball that I am.
I’m proud of who I am!!!!
As always, thank you for reading and your kind words, they mean the world to me❤️❤️❤️

What have you been working on?

I have truly been working on a lot of different things in my life. I don’t know anybody who’s only working on one thing. If they truly are and it’s all they need to work on envy them. I have quite a list, including:
1) Finding ways to make peace with my past and being content in the present.
2) Not worrying about the future and just being in the now.
3) My writing, every day, I work hard harder and harder on it, trying to make it the best I can trying to write in as many different forms I can challenge myself and grow.
4) To see the best and everybody even the worst people in the world, and not get tangled up in it. In the past, I would see the best in people and get tangled up in their drama.
5) My health, I intend to get it more under control as self-care is critical for all of us and the thing we do the least well in our lives, I think.
6) Not being a doormat (as I used to be) to my friends, colleagues, and family.
7) Most importantly, how ideal with things that confront me and happen to me. To not react immediately. To take pause create space don’t let the emotions overwhelm me, and calmly coolly proceed.
As always, thank you all for reading and for your support…

In this consciousness we call life,
we have all been baptized in fire of adversity.
How we come out the other side is all that matters.
No need to dwell on the terrible things that happened, those just tested our mettle.
Try to remember that, when you’re overthinking like I do.
Find a peaceful way to integrate your past as a part of your life and series of lessons.
Some light and simple others quite cathartic.
Be present, be now, enjoy what’s in front of you.
Not what’s behind you or ahead of you…

Let’s get into a magic time castle it’s 1993, I was in my third year of college and grunge music has really taken off. I love the music in the 90s very much reminding of how fun my 20s could be.
Frank Black a.k.a. Black Frank of the famed band the Pixies who are amazing and fantastic in their own right, came up with this neat little ditty in his homage to the city of angels.
Song starts out, kinda obscure with some low vocals almost bass on acoustic guitar and then this hella hard guitar and drums come with bombastic intensity.
Remember, it was quite shocking. The first time I heard it. I loved it so many surprises and a lot of really interesting time signature changes and what not. Videos cool too I miss Alternative Nation and 120 Minutes that used to be on MTV back when it was a music channel. See in Black Frank scooting around in a hovercraft is pretty surreal in itself.
Check it out and enjoy it and as always, thank you for reading and listening, my friends…

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

The origins of my last name is something that most people, even friends don’t know about.
My last name is Aquino (AH-KWEENO).
It’s because I am a descendent of the philosopher Saint Thomas Aquinas who was the founder of the philosophical theory of Teleology.
To put it in the most simple of terms, “that which mankind does not understand we attribute to God”.

Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?
I really wouldn’t know. Living on my own. I’m pretty much busy every day of the week.
I have my 8 to 5 job technical writing by day. I’m also constantly cleaning and picking up my apartment so it’s spotless.
I cook and prepare my meals and clean up as I cook.
And I’m constantly blogging and reading and reflecting on other people’s blogs so I don’t really stop much except for the occasional vacation and even then I think I’m still writing/blogging.
As always, thank you for reading….

When you think of the word “successful,” who’s the first person that comes to mind and why?
I don’t want to be in any way be egocentric, but I think of myself as a success. I’m not saying we need to be stuck up, but we should toot our own horns to be proud of what we do and where we are. As well as, what its taken to get here. As I am in my case.
Rebooted my life, my career, my love life, my mental state of mind all at the same time. In addition, I changed my living situation and location as well.
I started a blog just a little over seven months ago and it seems to be doing pretty well, my job is going well too, and I get to work from home. I live in a nice apartment and a nice part of town with pretty much every amenity you could want an apartment.
I feel very proud of myself and I look forward to the new adventures that await me as I continue on this exciting journey, it’s not the material things.
It’s just being a control of my life and making decisions and seeing them through. I think that is what success truly is.
Remember, no matter how hard it gets no matter how weird it seems just keep going…

What could you try for the first time?
There’s so many things. I’ve tried that I’ve never done before recently, a good friend go once a month to do one of those painting deals where an artist has a painting and here she teaches you how to paint it and you do it step-by-step. I’m not an illustrator or an artist by any means and painting is not my forte so it’s way out of my comfort zone, but it’s been very very liberating. Trying new things like that.

New poetry forms, I have tried about 20 new poetry formats and I intend on trying all 168 that I can see eventually. It’s stimulating and terrifying at the same time.

We all need to venture out of our comfort zones to be better people and grow and I’ve done so much of that in these last few years and I’m gonna continue doing that the rest of my life. I’ll start coming up with a list and start knocking those out!!! I suggest you all do the same if you can!

What principles define how you live?
There are a few principles that I live by. Being an empath I always try to put myself in other people shoes since I can kinda sense and even feel where they’re coming from better than they realize.
Also, I believe in the golden rule, do onto others as you’d want them to do on you. And also even if they don’t, I try to turn the other cheek and be the bigger person which isn’t always easy.
I’m trying to learn how to not react and put space between me and my emotions. It’s a big challenge and it’s gonna take time. I’m still working on it. As people say things and do things that hurt us we tend to want to react which is a knee-jerk deal. I’d rather take pause and realize where things are coming from and not taking things so hard.
Another big one for me is that it starts and ends with us. We make bad choices and we pay for them. Those are our fault so we’re not victims take control of what’s happened in our lives and realize where things came from and find peace ultimately grace in the lessons. Don’t get me wrong. Those have done wrong to us their responsibility for their actions, but we also bare responsibility for allowing them to do it and putting them in a physician to do it.

Most people think of Gary Numan and think of his huge hit song Cars, which is a great song.
But, the album he recorded with the Tubeway Army (Replicas) has a lot to offer. As it is a highly experimental album with really something for everybody.
Aside from new wave and even some songs borderlining on Punk there’s some pretty good rock songs on Replicas as well. The album’s opening track though is still my favorite, Me I Disconnect From You.
This is truly a sonic explosion of music. Some of the earliest new wave ever recorded and it’s amazing and it’s really really intriguing.
The synth sound here is really different. I don’t think I’ve ever heard these notes together like this except in this song. Also, it has a really catchy beat and I really do enjoy the vocals on this song. Definitely feel there might be a bit of a Kraftwerk influence here as well.
So ahead of its time 1979 this is what music would become in the early 80s when new wave really took off.
I don’t know if there is a term such as Proto new wave, but that’s what this could be or postpunk. I’m making a new words up here, everybody (lol).
So please to check it out, Me I Disconnect From You off the replicas album by Gary Numan & Tubeway Army. And if you get a chance, check out the rest of the album it’s really great. Has a lot of different stuff on it. Great for listening to while you’re writing or while you’re reading.

When was the first time you really felt like a grown up (if ever)?
Before I share my answers to this daily question, I want to put a qualifier out there. I’m not casting any aspersions or negativity on Millennials or Generation Z people out there. This is just from my experience and it’s a very very humble opinion not fact, and not any kind of judgment. That being said let’s get started.
I feel like I’ve always been an adult. I know it’s a sad thing to say but things we grow up and go through in our lives can make us into adults very young.
I was incessantly picked on as a young man, and that made me learn to grow independent and have to deal with things on my own.
Dealing with death for the first time at age 6 (my paternal grandfather), and many others before I even hit young adulthood, also aged me considerably.
Having some relatives that were alcoholics or addicted to drugs, also forced me to grow up very young.
Finally, being an empath, and realizing I was one now in retrospect at age 6 after my paternal grandfather, passed away. I was picking up on emotions around me by adults and not understanding what they were, also forced me to grow up very young.
I feel like this being a member of Generation X pretty much destined us all to becoming adults, young. That’s why I find it so shocking that a few Millennials and definitely many Generation Z’s I’ve encountered in my life, can’t seem to adult even when they’re over the age of 18 or 20.

This for me is definitely one of Brian Wilson’s Magnum, opus’s of a song.
He wrote the brilliant stunning, goosebump music to this song along with the brilliant lyrics by the brilliant Tony Asher.
It’s hard to pick a favorite on pet sounds because the whole album is absolutely brilliant and it’s one of the albums. I’d have with me if I was ever stranded on a desert Island.
It’s probably my number three album of all time and this song to me, expresses the troubled, genius of Brian Wilson and how he had a hard time finding those that he could relate to and could relate to him.
“ I keep lookin’ for a place to fit in
Where I can speak my mind
And I’ve been tryin’ hard to find the
people That I won’t leave behind
They say I got brains But they ain’t
doin’ me no good I wish they could”
Note, the interesting use of the theremin towards the end of the song that he’d later use on the masterpiece Good Vibrations as well.
The Wrecking Crew is present here in full force, I love this staccato eighth notes, running up and down the bass guitar by the amazing bassist Carol Kaye. And the countermelody on the keyboards and stuff is absolutely very, very different and it makes you stop and take notice and then the lyrics are amazingly poignant and heartbreaking.
The great master percussionist and my hero Hal Blaine likely playing the wood blocks in the background, which I also love by the way.
And Brian Wilson singing the lead solo alone, echoing in the cold with only the warm harmonies of himself and his colleagues in the Beach boys, providing the background melodies.
Please enjoy…

If you had a million dollars to give away, who would you give it to?
This is again a hypothetical that’s really difficult because you kinda need to think about what you do for yourself and those nearest you before you take care of those furthest from you if you had a large excess of money like $1 million.
I would definitely help many if I did have access monies though and in that vein, I will share a fun little song by a band. I’ve liked for a long time and it always makes me laugh when I hear it.

What’s something you would attempt if you were guaranteed not to fail.
There’s no such thing as a guarantee to not fail. But nonetheless, I’ll try writing anyway as well as blogging. I’m a musician and will definitely be playing music again soon.
Whether I succeeded or fail, it doesn’t matter as long as I’m doing what I love and it makes me happy and fulfills my life.

What was the hardest personal goal you’ve set for yourself?

The hardest personal goal I’ve ever set is to love myself. It’s also my greatest accomplishment in my life. Because with self love, I can do anything and become the absolute best version of myself.
A lot of my life people around me treating me like I was less than great in the I assumed that I was for a long time.
I had to get out of my head and I had to realize that what they think doesn’t matter it’s only what I think that matters about myself.
It took a lot of self-love and strength to leave my last ex-wife. It was hard and scary. A lot of change a lot of venturing out of my comfort zone, but it was worth it. That’s where growth is that’s where the answer is lie are outside of our comfort zones. If we want to be better, we must challenge ourselves.
Just remember everything starts and ends with us. That’s become one of my credos. We make bad choices and we pay for them. And that’s how we learn. If you love yourself, you will not tolerate less than great treatment by those around you.
I’ve heard the expression that if you don’t love yourself then nobody will love you. I’m living proof that that’s true. I picked (in the past) people that didn’t care about me (unconsciously) since I didn’t care about myself. once I figured out that cycle, I broke it forever.

Who are your favorite artists?
I’ll have to break them down by categories. I’m not gonna go into a great deal in detail at this point in the interest of saving you all some time and having to read all my junk (lol).
MUSIC:

The Beatles are my favorite band. always have been always will be.
ART:

Pablo Picasso is my favorite artist. Ever since I studied with him in art history and learned how to view his paintings and art I love his work.
AUTHOR:

Stephen King is my favorite author. been reading his book since I was 11 years old and I love them.
POET:

It’s a three-way tie for favorite poet, being Robert Frost, Shel Silverstein, and Walt Whitman. These three are giants in the poetry world for me.
ACTOR:

It’ll probably have to be a tie between Tom Hanks, and Robert De Niro.
ACTRESS:

It’ll be a tie between Julianne Moore and Rachel McAdams.
There are probably other artistic categories, but I’m going to keep things simple tonight.

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?
I’m reforming this question to what are my favorite hobbies or past times because there are quite a lot of them.
I’m self taught on piano, so I can somehow read the music and I play by ear and do my own arranging. That’s a lot of fun.
I write a lot, I write poetry, short stories, essays quotes, music analysis, and share them in my blog.
I love to play the drums and eventually I will have a digital set in my apartment, but I have to save up right now.
I love, listening to lots and lots of music and have it playing all the time.
I go once a month with a good friend to do those painting events where there’s a person they’re showing everybody how to do the same painting. It’s way out of my comfort zone, but it’s very good for me to become more balanced creatively.
I also love live music and concerts. I haven’t been to one in a year plus but I intend to get back out there.
When I’m in a little bit better shape I love playing tennis, walking, hiking, and working out.
I love swimming and going to the beach body boarding.
I love to read and have read many many books.
I love to stream all kinds of great entertainment all the time.
And of course I love video games. I guess I’ll always be a big kid inside.
As always, thank you for reading…

What would you do if you lost all your possessions?

This has happened to me many times. I go on. I move forward. I start over.
I’ve been through two divorces, lost two of my storage units, and I’ve had to start my life a new three times now.
I find that we got a lot in ourselves and our friends and possessions just way down. John Lennon had it right “Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can, no need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man”
Possessions are just things they come they go. It’s people that stay and that are important, friends, family, colleagues, mentors.

Facts as they are
Nothing but the truth
Lessons leave a scar.
–
I know it’s uncouth
But life is quite hard
You want some proof?
–
Well in this regard
Look in the mirror
And look real hard.
–
Only then you’ll care
And make concessions
For life it will scare.
–
When applying its lessons
Many with some pain
Save your confessions.
–
For the criminally insane
You know yourself
Just use your brain.
–
For knowledge is wealth
The memories are here
No need for stealth.
–
Get your life in gear
Get off of your phone
Stop shedding your tears
–
Sabbatical out of your comfort zone
Challenge your every skill
Remember that you and you alone.
–
Can swallow the ‘red pill’
End all your strife
Using your sheer will.
–
Finally get a life
While you can
Find a new wife.
–
Lend a helping hand
Share your mistakes
At will, your command.
–
Show that even when life breaks
And things go off unplanned
Doing all that it takes
Only then, you’ll understand…
