Consonants, syllables, words, and beat
These are the color pallets of a poet
There are no shortcuts or way to cheat
Ask any one of us, as we all know it
–
Usually one line comes to mind
As we create something new
Each poem, one of a kind
As our processes are tried and true
–
Counting syllables with one hand
Per the rules of a poetry type
Only a poet understands
The efforts involved as they write
–
Often when the writing is done
One stanza must be erased
This is part of our editing fun
As our poems form, post haste
–
Quatrains, haikus, raikus, and quadrilles
A myriad of forms for the poet to choose
Using our creativity to climb those hills
So that our readers will be amused
–
Then at last we’re finally through
All the words are down and complete
There’s nothing really left to do
Except go to WordPress and publish the latest suite.

Thank you. I made it up to be honest I mean I’m not saying I invented it but I’m just calling it a raiku for rhyming haikus. I had a notion that I wanted to challenge myself more in my writing so I came up with the rhyming haiku as a new challenge for me.

Ok the two lines I wrote were
My cat is like a creamsicle
He has long whiskers that tickle
So I did my version as you can see (above) but it’d be cool to collaborate. So do you write the next two lines? 🐱

His personality is quite whimsical
When he’s feisty he can be a dill pickle.

Ok here is my cat
My cat is like a creamsicle
He has long whiskers that tickle
Orange cream golden eyes
Do not be surprised
He may attack
That’s my cat

Anthony, I wrote the clogyrnach. It’s about wrens.
I want to hear the wrens singing 8. They do not know the joy they bring. 8
To my heart it’s true 5
Cheer me when I’m blue 5
Laughing me 3
Have some tea 3
Did I get it? You’re too busy to collab on the puppy one and that’s understandable! But write back about the wrens please. Thanks! 🌷
