Street Lights, Yesterday and Today

When street lights turn on we take a double

Remembering in childhood of the trouble

We could never ever be late

As our parents would wait

As we turned the nob on the front door

It’d be a welcome or punishment for sure

I had my first watch at that time

Always checking, to prevent this crime

Many calendars later I’m far older

As the street lights up I bravely soldier

Out for a night on the town or a drink

Walking the boulevards, pause and think

Growing was easier but curfews did stink…

  1. I remember those days vividly. We didn’t tempt fate; it was a time when children held a healthy fear and respect for their parents. Where have those days gone?
